Taskmaster Series 22 Is Here and the Line-Up Is an Absolute Dream

Richard Ayoade doing tasks set by Greg Davies is the kind of television crossover event that you did not know you needed until it was right in front of you. Ayoade's combination of absolute deadpan refusal to engage and occasional bursts of deeply committed weirdness is already making for incredible viewing.

Matt Lucas brings the chaos energy the show always thrives on, Isy Suttie is sharper than she lets on, Nina Conti inevitably arrived with a puppet, and Chloe Petts is the kind of confident wildcard who could genuinely run the whole series. It is a proper ensemble.

Why Taskmaster Just Gets Better Every Series

What makes Taskmaster so endlessly watchable is that it is not really about the tasks at all. It is about watching people reveal exactly who they are when left alone in a field with a paddling pool and a cryptic instruction. You learn more about a comedian from thirty minutes of Taskmaster footage than from watching their hour-long Netflix special.

Channel 4 confirmed the show is renewed all the way through to Series 27, which means we have Taskmaster locked in until at least 2029. That is genuinely wonderful news for British television. In a world of endless doom-scrolling and increasingly grim headlines, a show that is purely and unapologetically delightful is something worth protecting.
