MasterChef: The Professionals 2026 Starts Tonight with 24 Chefs and New Twists

MasterChef: The Professionals returns to BBC One at 8pm tonight, Tuesday 3 November, bringing a new group of chefs into one of television's most demanding kitchens. Series 19 has 24 competitors, familiar judges and several changes designed to put culinary skill under an even brighter spotlight.
Who is judging this year?
Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti return as the judging duo. Matt Tebbutt, who appeared in the previous series, is not part of this run. Both returning judges have spoken about wanting to see a contestant's own style emerge through careful technique, thoughtful flavour combinations and confident decisions under pressure.
The competition features professionals from a wide range of kitchens, including restaurants, hotels, pop-ups and private catering businesses. Contestants come from across the UK rather than a single dining scene, giving viewers a chance to see how different backgrounds influence the food on the plate.
What has changed in the format?
There are fewer competitors than in some previous years, with 24 chefs taking part. A new twist gives the Chef of the Day immunity, offering a direct advantage in the next stage of the contest. The familiar skills test has also been reworked: competitors will face the challenge in view of one another instead of completing it entirely separately.
That adjustment could make the opening rounds especially tense. The skills test is intended to reveal how well trained chefs handle classic techniques when time is short and expectations are high. Watching others work may offer clues, but it can also add to the pressure.
Who is taking part?
The announced line-up includes chefs from restaurants such as The Hand & Flowers in Marlow and Rambutan in London's Borough Market, alongside private chefs and independent food entrepreneurs. Among the first contestants profiled ahead of tonight's launch are Kieran Jones, Ruchi Mehrotra, Jemma Harrison and Dan Nunn.
The variety matters because the programme is not simply a contest between established fine-dining kitchens. A chef used to preparing food for a small private event may approach a brief very differently from someone working a busy restaurant service, and both can produce memorable dishes.
When is the final?
The series is scheduled to run for seven weeks, with three episodes a week. The final is currently listed for Friday 18 December at 8pm. Episodes will also be available through BBC iPlayer, although viewers should check the service for the precise release schedule.
For anyone who enjoys the craft behind restaurant cooking, the draw is the chance to see talented chefs explain their decisions, recover from mistakes and refine their dishes as the competition progresses. The first episode should establish which personalities and cooking styles are likely to make the strongest impression.
